1in6 helps male sexual abuse victims .. like LeMond

January 30, 2018

During his recent talk at the Oak Ridge Playhouse, thrice Tour d’France winner Greg Lemond spoke about his organization, 1in6.

“The mission of 1in6 is to help men who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences live healthier, happier lives. Our mission also includes serving partners, family members, friends, and service providers by offering information and support resources online and in the community,” according to the organization’s website.

LeMond said the organization’s name refers to the number of men who have been sexually abused.

That number includes LeMond.

He said he was molested at a young age and spoke to the Playhouse audience about how that made him feel in later years.

“Somehow you feel you’re not a normal person,” LeMond said. He described how he felt “partially responsible” for being molested and those feelings of guilt that many victims feel are “not logical, but that’s what people carry.”

Promotional material for the talk stated LeMond founded the organization in 2007, the same year he spoke with Paul Kimmage of The Sunday Times in the United Kingdom about his experience.

LeMond is working with Oak Ridge National Laboratory on a carbon fiber manufacturing process he plans to use for his company LeMond Composites. He lives in Greenback.
