It is with great enthusiasm that I write to you to let you know that Martin Moran has been elected to the 1in6 board of directors. Martin has been an advocate and long time supporter of 1in6 and he will join us as our newest board member effective September 1st. As you may have read on the 1in6 website, Martin is a highly successful theater, television and film actoras well as an award-winning author. His Broadway performances include Cabaret, Titanic, Spamalot, Bells Are Ringing, Big River, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and A Christmas Carol.
When Martin was 12 years old, he was manipulated by a camp counselor into what became a three-year sexually abusive relationship. Years later Martin wrote a book about his experiences during and after the abuse, including its impact on his adult life and relationships. The Tricky Part: A Boy’s Story of Sexual Trespass, A Man’s Journey to Forgiveness, won a 2005 Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers Award and a 2005 Lambda Literary Award. Martin was also awarded a 2004 OBIE and two Drama Desk Nominations for his one-man play, The Tricky Part, based upon his award-winning memoir. He lives in New York City with his long-time partner, Henry.
I am equally excited to let you know that Todd Eckel has joined the 1in6 staff. Todd has been hired as the full-time Managing Director of Programs and is responsible for the development and oversight of community education, outreach and training for 1in6. A Florida native, Todd has worked in the nonprofit sector his entire professional career. He has worked in literacy for Guatemalan migrants, taught at the university level and most recently ran the Inland Empire (Southern California) office for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, in charge of providing programs and services for people affected by MS. Todd is committed to social justice and has dedicated his life and time to serving those whose voices are marginalized and underrepresented. Todd is also currently working toward his doctorate in education through Loyola Marymount University.
