May I post your material on an Internet site?
You need to obtain permission from 1in6 to quote from or reuse materials found in our website or newsletter. Examples of material you might want to use include prose selections and images. Examples of reuses include books, dissertations, articles, conference or workshop materials, student course packs, etc. Permission is required even if you do not intend to charge for the use of the material. There is no set number of words or lines that may be used without our written permission. If you are not sure, it is best to request permission anyway. Permission must be requested before you use the material.
If the material in the 1in6 title is labeled “reprinted,” “reused with permission,” or “adapted from,” it means that we do not control the rights to the material, and you are advised to contact the cited source directly.
All requests for permission must be submitted in writing. They may be sent via email (permissions@1in6.org) or through regular mail:
- 1in6, Inc.
- Permissions Requests
- P.O. Box 222033
- Santa Clarita, CA 91322
- The name of the web page containing the information you wish to use.
- The paragraphs within page containing the material you wish to use.
- The specific nature of the use. Please describe how you will use the material and what the format will be – for example, photocopies for classroom use, transparencies for a lecture, etc.
For use in a book: include the publisher’s name, title of the book in which the excerpt will appear, the estimated print run, estimated length of the book, estimated cost of the book, and the languages rights you are requesting. We also need a description of the territory over which your use will be distributed (English-speaking world, United States, etc.).
For use on a Web site: include the URL of the site and whether visitors to the cite will be charged to view the excerpted material.
For use in a magazine: include the circulation and publication date.
For photocopies: describe the recipients (e.g., therapy groups, educational organizations, clinics, prisons, etc.) and how many copies you intend to make.
Generally it takes two to three weeks to process a request. If you are facing a deadline, please let us know and we will make every effort to accommodate you.
We charge reasonable fees depending on the nature of the use. If you feel there is a reason that you should not be charged, please include that information with your request. If your request falls under the guidelines of Fair Use, we will let you know, and there will be no charge. The 1in6 name must be properly cited in all cases, whether it is deemed fair use or not.
Permission to post materials on a website is processed the same way as print permission, and a limited number of such permissions are granted. You must obtain written permission from 1in6 before you post the material. Permission is required even if your website can be accessed at no charge. Please be sure to include the URL where the material would be posted and information on how the material will be used.
