Reflections on the Penn State Case by 1in6 Board Member Martin Moran
In Condemnation, Compassion, and the Complexity of Abuse, a Beacon Press blog post, Moran shares deeply personal and thought-provoking reflections on the Penn State story. He describes his own struggles with reporting his abuser to the police, including guilt and shame that it took him so long. And he encourages us all to move beyond easy condemnation and the ‘black and white’ of heroes and villains, to compassionate acceptance of ‘the gray of frightened human beings caught up in a world of hypermasculinity and voiceless secrets.’
Moran, a highly successful actor in theater, television and film, recently joined the 1in6 Board of Directors and is author of The Tricky Part: A Boy’s Story of Sexual Trespass, a Man’s Journey to Forgiveness.
