There are many impacts of sexual trauma that are consistent for men, regardless of their background, but a person’s ethnic or racial background has a profound impact on how that sexual trauma manifests itself and how a person reacts and heals from that abuse. 1in6 strives to understand the nuances of race and its effects on male survivors. As such, we have reached out to communities of color to better understand this dynamic and what 1in6 can add to the healing and recovery of these men and are working diligently to ensure that valid and meaningful programming can be accomplished.
With the help of experts in the field such as 1in6 board member Ruth Slaughter and cultural competency expert Emiliano C. Diaz de Leon, we will be exploring abuse and its effects on people of color to better serve these communities. These efforts will result in more effective and culturally responsive text and programming.
